Dr Luscombe was a Consultant in Pain Management and Anaesthesia at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals in Truro from 1990 to 2004 and a Consultant in Pain Management and Anaesthesia at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth from 2004 to 2016.
In his role he managed a wide range of chronically painful conditions including chronic back pain, sciatica, whiplash injuries and neck pain, complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS), neuropathic pain, chronic headache and cancer pain.
Having developed a particular interest in chronic pain syndromes and pain management programmes he co-founded the first formal pain management programme in the south west of England. Dr Luscombe shared the outcomes from this work as first author in an article in the journal Anaesthesia. Intrathecal drug delivery is another area of interest and expertise, and Dr Luscombe is also co-author of the British Pain Society’s best practice guidelines, and has lectured nationally and internationally on this area.
Dr Luscombe is an established medical expert with many years of experience in providing medicolegal services for lawyers and expert evidence for the courts. He has been an expert with Pain Expert Limited since 2013. Dr Luscombe is fully registered with a license to practice with the GMC and has recently revalidated.
