Dr Tom Bendinger has been providing medicolegal services to lawyers and preparing expert evidence for the courts since 2018. He has been a Consultant in Pain Medicine at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals since 2016 and is currently Clinical Lead for The Sheffield Pain Service. He also works clinically at the Claremont Hospital in Sheffield, in community-based pain services, and in pain management in primary care.
Dr Tom Bendinger has particular expertise in chronic primary pain, including fibromyalgia claimed to have been triggered by an index accident, chronic post-traumatic pain after accidents, and complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS). He is also experienced in the medical and multidisciplinary management of a wide range of chronic pain conditions listed in the ICD-11, including chronic post-surgical pain and chronic neuropathic pain.
Dr Tom Bendinger’s day-to-day clinical practice gives him extensive current experience in diagnosis, treatment planning and prognosis. He reviews more than 50 patients per week and works across tertiary NHS pain services, community-based pain services, pain management in primary care, and private practice treating the consequences of accidents.
Dr Tom Bendinger trained in South Yorkshire and The Midlands and completed a Pain Medicine fellowship in Sheffield, obtaining a Fellow of the Faculty of Pain Medicine of the Royal College of Anaesthetists qualification by examination in 2015. He also achieved a European Diploma in Regional Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine and completed a PhD thesis.
Dr Tom Bendinger is an Honorary Lecturer at Sheffield University and a former Regional Advisor in Pain Medicine for Sheffield and North Trent. He has published multiple articles in peer-reviewed and international journals, has presented at national and international conferences, and holds a Bond Solon certificate demonstrating his professional skill in medicolegal report writing.
